When travelling by high-speed train or regular train in China, all passengers are required to pass security checks similar to airport screening. To ensure a smooth journey, please note the following:
🔍 Security Checks
- All luggage and hand luggage must pass through security screening at the station.
- Security regulations are strictly enforced.
- Final decisions are always made by railway security staff.
Prohibited Items
The following items are not permitted on trains:
- Weapons, firearms, ammunition and explosives
- Knives with blades longer than 60 mm, daggers, switchblades or self-locking knives
- Flammable or explosive items (e.g. fuel, fireworks, gasoline, alcohol over 70%)
- Toxic, radioactive or corrosive substances
- Large tools or blunt objects (e.g. hammers, shovels, bats, sticks)
- Gas containers (e.g. hydrogen balloons)
- Live animals (except guide dogs or sealed seafood)
- Items with strong or unpleasant odors
Restricted Items (Limited Quantities)
- Aerosols and spray containers (e.g. hair spray, insect spray):
- Max 120 ml per item, 1 item per type
- Nail polish, remover, hair dye:
- Lighters and matches:
- Up to 2 lighters or 2 small boxes of safety matches
- Alcoholic beverages:
- Must be sealed and clearly labeled
- Alcohol content 24%–70%, total max 3,000 ml
- Homemade or unsealed alcohol is not permitted
Power Banks & Lithium Batteries
- Devices with lithium batteries (laptops, tablets, cameras, power banks) must be carried in hand luggage only.
- Power banks must not be placed in checked luggage.
- Power banks must:
- Have clear labeling
- Be CCC-certified
- Have a rated energy of ≤100 Wh
- Power banks over 100 Wh are not permitted on trains.
As a general reference, most standard 20,000 mAh (5V) power banks are usually within the ≤100 Wh limit.
